The Boy Kicks Butt... And I'm Proud

Today at the pool my 7 year old son got in a fight with an older boy. He shoved him a few times, then splashed him with water, then got out and told me he was ready to go home. The boy ran off ... but didn't tell his mother.

I was quite concerned and asked my son what was going on. He said " I just can't tell you mom, please don't make me." As the red sirens are going off in my head, I threatened BIG punishment if he didn't tell me why he just freaked out on the boy. His reply "I don't think you should hear this kind of thing mom, but I'll tell you if you don't get mad at me for saying it." I gave him my "you can always tell me anything" speech, and this is what he said. "Mom, that boy said he wanted to get _______ (an older girl in the pool, and a family friend) naked in his room, and it just made me so mad that he said that!"

This is where I hugged my son and told him I was proud of him for being a young man of integrity. I don't care what everyone else thinks, I'm GLAD my son kicked butt! I am proud that that kind of comment roused my normally easy going, non aggressive boy into righteous anger! Today.... my son was a hero. We need more people who are not willing to turn a blind eye to the "yuck" in our society, but to fight against it!

I've been missing you! I even started to comment today asking where on earth you've been. Your posts are too good to be so infrequent. No pressure, though. Just know I'm sitting here waiting each day for you to show up on bloglines. Doing nothing else but waiting.

Your pool story...I love that your guy recognized the ugliness of it, and came to the girl's defense without her having to know!

Creeps me out that boys would say that. YUCK.

Absolutely!!!! I hope the other kid learned his lesson!!! It's good to hear that chivalry is not dead! And additional kudos to him for not wanting you to have to hear the gross details; he was defending your purity as well.

Awesome story! You've got an awesome man of God on your hands!

But really, are you sure your public schooled son could stand up for righteousness? ;o)

Wow, your doing a good job Karlie!!

That is so awesome that he knew how inappropriate that was AND that he wanted to protect you from hearing that kind of talk. What a great little guy.

Right on, little man!! I don't think he did anything wrong in showing this kid how disgusting he was acting.
Even Jesus showed righteous anger in the face of blatant sin.

I'm proud of your son, too!

I just read your comment on Gayle's blog about being a Type A and still not getting anything done - and stressing about it. I am so with you! Thanks for making me laugh.
Now I must go BECAUSE I HAVE SO MUCH TO DO TODAY!!!

All these mom's are commenting. From a father's perspective (of four boys, no less), I can't tell you how excited I am to see that. We need more young men who wills stand up to that kind of garbage. However, I'll warn you that our societal leadership (especially women, for some reason) don't appreciate that kind of response. It needs to be more gentle and diplomatic, trying to show the boy why he's thinking wrong. Needless to say, that's all bunk for a variety of reasons that I won't go into in a comment. However, I'll put my two cents in that, even if you choose for your son to go to public school next year, he may not last long, as they won't put up with that type of "negative behavior" for very long. I wish more boys got kicked out for those reasons.

Wow..... he is brave to take on an older boy like that! I would also have congratulated my son for standing up to him!
Our boys need to be strong and stand up against rubbish like that!
