A Parenting Breakthrough

Have you ever had that moment where you just "get it"? After all your struggles and prayers, you finally have a revelation in something as simple as a single scripture, or a song, or a few sentences of a book?
My oldest has always had a strong will. She is a fantastic kid, but has always questioned things... never one to accept "because I said so." As she approaches adolescence, I see her frustrations (they are often valid), and I fear she has a rebellious streak in her (gets it from her Momma).
So, here is the quote that spoke to me. Or should I say, the quote I beleive God spoke to me through!

Many rebellious kids are simply tired of life in the attic. They are tired of hiding. They are tired of the lethargy in their souls and the atrophy in their spiritual muscles. They are bored with a faith that takes no risks. They want to know either their God is big enough and powerful enough to provide safety among their enemies, or that He isn't. They especially want to see parents who claim to believe this living their lives in the face of their spiritual enemies.

i am so glad that I am not the only one who is worried about their tweens rebellious ways. I was just recommended a couple of others of Dr Kimmel's books to someone- Raising Kids Who Turn Out Right, and Raising Kids for True Greatness. I have read through parts of both- I need to read them cover to cover soon.

I am going to have to pick up that book... sounds fascinating!

I'm praying for you, girl. Keep me up to date!!! And I say STOP thinking too much about it. Enjoy your summer. Starting thinking again at the end of July!

Yeah, Grace Based Parenting turned light bulbs on for me...over and over. I really think God's given Tim Kimmel some sound wisdom in parenting. Good stuff!

Hi, I hopped over from Jane's - Halfmoon Girl - and you know what I thought about this quote?

It's not just rebellious kids who are tired of living a lethargic, faithless life. It's me, it's the woman sitting next to me in church, it's many, many grown up Christians I know.

They want to know either their God is big enough and powerful enough to provide safety among their enemies, or that He isn't.

Yes! We need to get a grip on that! ("We" meaning the church in general). I feel like I may as well not bother being a Christian if I'm not willing to be sold-out, full on living for Jesus. It's like the choices that C.S. Lewis presents for Jesus - He is either the Lord, a liar, or a lunatic. Those are the only three options, take your pick and live like it.
